Sub: Application in response to study permit refused on 18/01/2022 (S304504138)

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is my deepest gratitude to the visa high commission for allowing me to reinstate my purpose of visit to Canada. It is the scope and utility of this field that intrigues me about fine arts. As a calligrapher and a recognized artist, I have always been attracted to this field. Due to this, I am interested in pursuing higher studies and gaining an in-depth understanding of the subject’s technicalities and more deeply to improve my career prospects. Hence, I have carefully chosen to obtain a Diploma in Fine Arts from Langara College. This will propel my career forward and allow me to live the life I envision for myself as a dedicated artist. I have also received a Letter of Acceptance from Langara College. Unfortunately, my study permit remained unapproved due to the following grounds:

  • I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

As a result of this application, I seek to demonstrate that I am only visiting Canada for academic purposes, intending to return to India after completing higher education. In addition, I consciously chose the course since it relates to my previous academic and professional experiences and also promises knowledge and skill enhancement.

Purpose of Visit

I am visiting Canada to benefit as much as possible from its quality of education and its cultural diversity. Being a passionate fine art student, I possess a sound understanding of artwork, art materials, portfolio creation, and public art. My passion for the subject also took me to almost all the art museums in the capital city of India. I have also volunteered in numerous exhibitions and art fairs. While my academic experience has provided me with a sound knowledge of the concept and importance of fine arts, my interest in the field provided the much-needed thrust to nourish prospects in a similar direction. By enrolling at Langara College, I will acquire the skills I need to pursue my career goals. Despite this, studying in Canada will give me unparalleled exposure to international culture. I will gain exposure to a plethora of possibilities through this fine arts course. It will enhance my academic potential and allow me to train myself at a globally renowned education center. The opportunity to study in Canada will help me leverage this experience in seeking better opportunities back home. Hence, to take my career to the next level, I am convinced that studying in Canada will be the best choice.

Why Canada?

Canada is undoubtedly the most suitable choice for me based on my physical, financial, and social condition. I have diligently searched for one optimal study destination that complements my current circumstances and Canada certainly checked all the boxes for me. I found Canada to be the most compatible with my budgeting math out of the major English-speaking nations like the U.S.A., Australia, and the U.K. Further, Canada has one of the best higher education systems in the world. International students who aspire to acquire top-notch education can pursue it at this global education hub. Canada’s advanced pedagogy provides students with practical skills that make them marketable. Further, its ability to offer exposure to a country as unique as the United States is unparalleled which assures me that I will receive a quality learning environment. Most importantly, the Global Peace Index ranks Canada as one of the most peaceful countries in the world, which certainly encourages me to pick Canada over and over again. The quality of its health care facilities at the international base reflects its ethics and concern for temporary entrants. This gives me a lot of confidence to apply to Canada as my study destination. Moreover, I am eager to study amidst the scenic beauty of Vancouver and learn from the natural painting the super-power has bestowed us with.

Why not India?

I prefer studying in Canada because I will gain a rich educational experience there. In contrast, in my country, there is more of a theoretical structure in our educational system, while in Canada we have more practical classroom sessions and industry visits. In addition to gaining an internationally recognized qualification, studying in Canada will also provide me with international exposure that is highly valued in India. Professionals with internationally recognized credentials are highly sought after in India. The course curriculum at Langara College fits my needs better than any other college in my hometown. Thus, studying in Canada will benefit me greatly.

Why Fine Arts at Langara College?

To prepare for studying in Canada, I looked at different fine arts curriculums offered by different colleges. Langara appeared to offer the most competitive program. In terms of practical application, the course curriculum is incredibly comprehensive, with ample opportunities to learn. This program covers topics such as Ceramics, Painting, Sculpture, Design Studio, Printmaking, and more, which I find very interesting. Developing a deep understanding of these topics will allow me to excel in my chosen field. Furthermore, because this program includes Modern Novel, Poetry, and Drama, I find it to be a worthwhile opportunity to develop additional skills. Alternatively, the diploma of fine arts program at Langara has been meticulously designed to meet my study objectives. I am also extremely eager to begin my program here as soon as possible, after studying its renowned faculty, unparalleled infrastructure, and diverse student body. Langara being ranked 5763 globally as the leading undergraduate institution gives me a lot of pride to associate it with my academic journey.

Family ties in India

I belong to a nuclear family which includes my mother, father, elder sister, and younger brother. My father runs two successful businesses which manufacture paper-based fiber drums and HDPE drums. My mother is a homemaker who at the same time also helps my father in his business. My sister is well-placed as a graphic designer in a multinational company while my young brother is pursuing his academic studies. Throughout my life, my family has been my greatest inspiration and I have nurtured great talents from them, especially my father and my sister. Over time, I have developed stronger bonds with my family as we have always been in a close-knit circle living together as a modern independent family in India. For me, it is very difficult to stay with them for a longer period, hence, I am willing to return to my homeland soon after completing my studies. Also, to be able to accompany my aging father and mother and fulfill my duties towards my siblings, I wish to be with them sooner. Moreover, as a family, we have accumulated enough wealth so far. In the future, my father wants all of us to take care of our shares. This is another strong reason to come back to India. However, the love of my family remains at the top. I also declare that I do not possess any family ties in Canada, hence, will come back to my country to seek better prospects and I am convinced that this course will surely come to my advantage.

Future plans

I belong to a land of ancient art, Madhubani paintings, warli paintings, and kalighat paintings to name a few. Art has been at the roots of our society yet to gain recognition as an artist is challenging. Several reasons contribute to this, including localization of art and non-vocalization of artists. Through acquiring formal training in the fine arts from the renowned institute of Canada, I intend to break all the taboos associated with the arts and artists in India. The international exposure gained in Canada will allow me to vocalize my talent cross-borders and I would be able to reach a larger audience or art-lovers. I hope to finish this course with flying colors in the short run. Gaining a deeper understanding will ensure a promising future back home. In the longer run, I intend to utilize my talent, skills, and academic knowledge to open my art gallery. With the international exposure gained abroad, I will be able to connect with artists from different nations and bring them all on a single platform utilizing my networking skills. With this, I aim to take Indian art to global museums and set milestones for future artists.

Conclusion

I come from a financially secure background. We possess numerous tangible and intangible assets. We own valuable property in India, with an approximate value of CAD 16, 44,886.43. My father has an annual income of CAD (add figure). The proof of income with a tax return certificate is attached herewith. Due to my eminent desire to flourish in the field of fine arts, my parents have agreed to sponsor my education and stay in Canada. To cover my tuition and living expenses, I have deposited CAD 12,000 as my first-year tuition fees as well as deposited CAD 10,000 for the student GIC program. Moreover, my family has adequate funds to cover any additional expenses I might incur while in Canada.

To prove my English language proficiency, I have taken the IELTS examination and have obtained an overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0. Therefore, I am convinced that language will not become a barrier for me and I will have a comfortable stay in Canada.

To complete my studies in Canada, I am applying for this grant. I am aware that I must take advantage of every opportunity I find during my stay in Canada since I am familiar with the Canadian Immigration Rules. As an international student, I will follow all rules set forth for international students and strive to maintain a positive image of both my institution and country. It is my most fervent desire to contribute to Canadian culture under all conditions. To begin studying at Langara College, I request a student permit from the Canadian High Commission. I am sincerely hoping that my candidacy will be accepted as a genuine temporary student entrant in Canada.

Yours Faithfully,

Aarusha Sharma
