Sub: Application requesting a study permit

Respected Sir/ Madam,

I, Naina Desai extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for allowing me an opportunity to express my sincere desire to study in Canada. I am a working professional who has closely worked with departments in logistics and procurement. I am keen on gaining a formal education in this field so that I can bring considerable changes to the way the Indian logistics and supply chain management industry functions. I have thoughtfully chosen to pursue a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in International Supply Chain Management at Douglas College in Canada. As I have also received a Letter of Admission for September 2022 intake, I wish to provide you with detailed information on my profile in support with my visa application for study permit approval.

I hope by the end of this application; I would be able to convince you about my status as a genuine temporary entrant to Canada.

Academic and professional background

I belong to a very supportive family that has given me all the resources, support, and motivation to perform well in academics. I passed my senior school with an overall percentage of 85% in 2008 and passed senior secondary school with an aggregate percentage of 81.3% in 2010. After passing out of school, I pursued a Bachelor’s in Electronics and Communication & Engineering which I passed in 2014 with an overall percentage of 67.5%. However, throughout my graduating years, I realized that engineering is not something that I want to pursue for the rest of my life. Hence, after graduating, I speculated and found my inclination towards marketing. As a result of this, I pursued PG Diploma between 2015 to 2017, majoring in Marketing & Strategy and studying Supply Chain Management as a minor subject. However, in the middle of this course, I got various internship opportunities but the one that changed my entire point of view towards supply chain and logistics was carried out at MetaCog Solutions which offers online training for the supply chain to the IT professionals. My responsibilities as an intern here included accessing and studying the supply chain management courses and preparing the key points and questions. I also prepared case studies based on the concepts of SCM and DM. I had a chance to develop fundamental knowledge of Supply Chain Management during my PG Diploma program and internship. From thence, I developed a peculiar understanding of this subject and my fascination invigorated me to work in this field. Unfortunately, being in the middle of one course, I had no other choice than to pass it and embrace some hardcore working experience before actualizing my plan to study abroad. Hence, after completing my study program, I received an opportunity to work with Greenlam Industries Pvt Ltd as an Assistant Manager which I quickly grabbed calculating the kind of exposure that I could gather in that role. I worked here from July 2017 to February 2021 owing to its wonderful work culture. Later, I moved to serve as an Accounts Manager at FORMICA Laminates (India) Pvt Ltd from May 2021 to February 2022. Throughout my tenure either at Greenlam or FORMICA, I inculcated direct or indirect interaction with Supply Chain Management and Logistics departments. As a result, a distinctive desire to acquire formal training in supply chain management kept fueling inside me. Hence, after gaining a handful work experience, I find myself fit to carve a niche for myself in the domain of supply chain and logistics.

Why International Supply Chain Management at Douglas College?

While looking for various course options, I came across the curriculum available at Douglas College. It perfectly matches my career expectations out of fully-fledged academic learning. Douglas College has a much more extensive course than other colleges that suits my study requirements. Studying this course would be able to reserve better career opportunities in the field of the supply chain. As a result of my studies at Douglas College, I will also receive an industry-recognized FITT Diploma in International Trade which is a major value addition to this program. Also, by studying among the most diverse academic population, I will outgrow interpersonal skills. Douglas College maintains a world-class infrastructure to support learning activities. Also, face-to-face interaction with faculty due to the small class size will come to my learning advantage. The sensitivity of Douglas College to maintain a student network and support cell for international students convinces me of its high values. Through grabbing formalized training in supply chain management, I want to become a well-rounded professional who can independently handle the complex business situation in the supply chain and logistics industry.

Why Canada?

Canada has always been my favorite choice for further studies. Hence, as I thought about studying abroad, there was only Canada on my mind. It is certainly a prominent education leader. Canada offers an open learning culture that is represented by its diverse student force. It is equipped with open-access libraries, hi-tech classrooms, and eminent learning resources that one can expect to augment educational experiences. Also, students get a lot of internship opportunities in Canada that help them emerge as seasoned professionals in their respective professions. I am also impressed by Canada’s ranking seven on the global peace index which ensures me a comfortable and peaceful stay as an international student. Moreover, the cost of education in Canada is suiting to my budgetary equation. I have compared the education expense of Canada with other English-speaking countries and have found it to be light in my pocket. Although I am already impressed by Canada’s education system, a sneak peek into its practical delivery makes it even alluring for me to embrace study options in Canada.

Why Not India: I aim to interact with global stakeholders through studying international supply chain management. Through my studies in Canada, I will acquire international exposure which is not possible if I am to study in India. Moreover, an internationally accredited qualification will come to my career advantage as Indian employers pose significant importance to individuals possessing foreign education. Due to Canada’s rich practical exposure, I would be able to beat theoretically inclined competition in India. In a way, I will get a competitive edge over others which is far more impossible if I have to beat the same crowd without making any distinction in my academics.

Reasons to return to India

Family Ties

I am a married woman who comes from a well-settled family in India. My family beside me comprises my parents, husband, and in-laws. Since my wedding day, I am living with my husband and my in-laws. My husband is a businessman. My in-laws have a reputed family business having a chain of stores dealing in optical business for the last 50 years. Since my husband is the only son of my parents’ in-laws, we are the only heir to the family’s wealth of assets and business. Hence, I can’t relocate anywhere. I have a lot of responsibilities on my shoulders. I have certain personal commitments with my husbands and I am accountable to take care of my in-laws as well as parents. In absence of any family connections in Canada, I will return to my family members who will eagerly wait for me to return home.

Future Plans

As I witnessed a lot of discomfort during the time of covid-19, I also grasped clinging information about India’s highly disrupted supply chain management due to which consumers had to struggle a lot. Through acquiring formal training in international supply chain management, I wish to bring reformative changes in the way logistics are handled in India. In the short run, I wish to utilize my newly acquired academic learnings and potential skills in acquiring supervisory roles in Distribution Management, Production Plant Management, Inventory Planner or Management, Logistics Supervision, etc. However, in the long run, utilizing my marketing and business skills and extensive SCM knowledge, I aim to establish my clothing brand in India heading the entire supply chain management throughout the business operations. My international exposure will garner me great opportunities to attract influential buyers and stakeholders from across the nation and outside.

Financial establishment and ability to fund the education

I belong to a financially stable family that possesses tangible assets of CAD 5,00,000. Together this constitutes our total net worth of CAD 5,00,000. In light of this, my family is financially able to support my education in Canada. My father has extended his support to sponsor my entire education. Hence, I have also paid a tuition fee of CAD 18,727.50 and deposited CAD 10,000 into the GIC account. I am also convinced about my family’s financial status to support me in case of additional expenses that I might incur during my stay in Canada.

Language Proficiency

I understand how critical it is to pass the IELTS exam for proving my language proficiency. Hence, I have taken the necessary IELTS examination and secured an overall band score of 7.0 having no band less than 6.0 (Listening: 8.0, Reading: 6.0, Writing: 6.5, Speaking: 6.5). I am thus convinced about having great interaction and networking opportunities throughout my stay in Canada.

Conclusion

I extend my earnest thanks to you for patiently reviewing my application and considering my genuine intent to study in Canada. I have also familiarized myself with the Canadian Immigration Laws that I will follow throughout my stay in Canada. I will display high accountability for my actions and behavior. I will be of utmost respect towards my peers and colleagues and uphold the country’s law until I stay in Canada. I will return to my country in a timely fashion and shall not exceed my stay in any given circumstance.

Yours Sincerely,

Naina Desai
